TCS London Marathon 2025

Training Milestone: First Half Marathon Done! 🏅🎉

Today was supposed to be my long run—a scheduled 1 hour 45 minutes on my marathon training plan. But something exciting happened…

Before the time was up, I glanced at my watch and realized I’d already hit 20km! With just 1km to go, there was no way I was stopping there—I pushed on and completed 21.1km to officially tick off a half marathon! 🏃‍♂️🔥

Not only that, but I clocked it in 1 hour, 49 minutes, and 26 seconds—a pretty speedy effort for a training run! My pace is improving, and hitting this milestone 10 weeks before race day gives me a huge confidence boost. 💪

Massive thanks to everyone supporting my journey—whether through donations, kind words, or encouragement. Every bit of motivation helps me push further!

Pushing limits! 16km done, half a marathon next? 🤷🏼

Following my marathon training plan on the Coopah app, I've got a variety of runs to do 🏃‍♂️. It seems like every fortnight, one run pushes me further. Two weeks ago, I had to run for 1 hour 20 minutes, whereas last week was a lighter 1 hour. This week, however, the bar was raised again 📈—my target was 1 hour 30 minutes! That meant tweaking my route to extend my run.

Given that I was out the night before and didn’t get much sleep 😴, my expectations and motivation weren’t exactly high… but I pulled up my running socks 🧦, laced up my shoes 👟, and hit the road!

💥 Progress update: I managed to squeeze 16km into those 90 minutes! Super chuffed with that, as it means I’m now only 5km away from a half marathon 🤩🏅.

Speaking of which… I’ve officially signed up for the Brentwood Half Marathon 🏁, taking place a month before the London Marathon! If you weren’t sure I had a big enough challenge to earn your sponsorship, maybe now you’ll be tempted? 😉

🙏 A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far—I’m halfway to my fundraising target, but still have a way to go. Every donation is greatly appreciated ❤️.

That’s all for now—time to go soak my legs in a hot bath again! 🛀🔥 Byeeeeee!!

Because running a marathon isn't enough....

🏃‍♂️💨 Big News! I've decided that one marathon just isn’t enough… so I’m adding a BONUS race to my training! 🎉

Not only am I running the London Marathon this April in support of London Air Ambulance, but I’ve now signed up for the Brentwood Half Marathon in March too! That’s 13.1 miles of extra sweat, sore legs, and determination – all to help raise vital funds for this life-saving service. 🚁❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already donated – your support means the world to me and is making a real difference. 🙌 Your generosity is fueling my training (and possibly my need for extra blister plasters! 😅).

I’ve set myself a fundraising target of £2,500, and I need your help to get there! Every pound donated will push me through training, past the blisters, and (hopefully) across both finish lines! 🏅

If you’d like to sponsor me and support an incredible cause,I'd be so grateful. 🙏

Thank you all so much – and wish me luck! (Or send me new running shoes… I’m going to need them! 😂)

Another Week, Another Long Run... With a Twist of Fog and Bird Poop?

This week’s long run took a turn for the dramatic. The goal was 1 hour and 20 minutes, and after hitting 10.2km last week in 58:44, I felt pretty confident... until I remembered that extra 20 minutes hanging over me like a fog (literally and figuratively).

Stepping outside, I was greeted by a scene straight out of The Exorcist. It was cold, foggy, and the kind of morning where every shadow makes you think you’re about to be haunted. The mist was thick, the air was chill, and I half expected to see someone run past me... but nope, just my own breath hanging in the air like a ghost.

But here’s the twist: as I’m running, the fog's hanging low, and every so often, I feel something cold drop onto my head. "What the heck?" I think, wiping it off—until I realize it's dew drops from the trees. For a moment, I actually thought I was dodging bird poop. I mean, you can’t rule anything out on a foggy run like that, right? 🤷‍♂️

Still, I powered through, and to my surprise (and delight), I ended up completing 14km in the allotted time! Maybe I’m not a marathon runner yet, but hey, that’s a third of the way there! I'll take it as a win—and be extra grateful for no bird-related incidents along the way.

A massive thank you to everyone who’s supported me so far! Your donations and encouragement mean the world. If you’d like to join the cause, I’d love your support.

Next week’s challenge? Hopefully fewer bird poop scares, but I’m ready for whatever comes my way! 😅👟💨

Tales of the unedxpected

Hello everyone! I'm a few weeks into training now and what a journey it's been so far! The first few weeks had me wondering if I'd bitten off more than I can chew. Sure I was completing 5k runs in a reasonable time, but I was absolutely knackered afterwards. The idea of running an extra kilometre felt unachievable, so how was I going to do a full marathon? But still, we press on and I kept training over the local nature park which has steep hills and varied terrain.

Finally my first long run came around on Tuesday. 10.2k. How was I going to be able to do this? I'd resigned myself to the fact I'd have to stop loads and would probably have to walk a lot of the second half, but regardless I got up early, put on a few layers of running gear and some gloves and set off. As I ran through the streets passing the dustmen out on their collections, the early risers on dog walks and a few other runners it occurred to me that I was quite enjoying it. In part I put this down to the fact i'd chosen to listen to a podcast instead of music. Having a conversation to concentrate on rather than zoning out to music was perhaps distracting me from any discomfort? Before long I had the notification in my ear from my training app that I'd just completed my 5th kilometre. "Here we go" I thought, "lets see how much further I can go". To my surprise I got to 6...7...8! And I still had gas in the tank. Eventually I hit 10.2 and stopped feeling triumphant! I stopped my app and couldn't believe it. 10.2km in 58mins 44secs! Not only had I finished the whole run without stopping, but I'd done it in a decent time too! Something I couldn't have expected when I left the house and headed off!

This has been such a big milestone for me. No only is it a significant achievement in my progress physically, but now mentally I'm thinking "Okay, a marathon is basically four of those". Clearly a lot more running but it suddenly didn't feel as daunting.

I've had sore legs and tight hamstrings for the last few days and this morning's 5k run was a bit of a chore, but I guess that's why these training plans are set up the way they are.

Another week in the bag and another step closer to the big one!

Thanks for following my journey and for all the kind donations.

Speak soon!

And we're off

After an unfortunate November/December where I was ill for about six weeks concurrently, I'm finally fighting fit and just in time to start the official marathon training programme!

I've done five runs so far and have been surprised at my levels of stamina. Clearly there's a long way to go but the dreaded flu hasn't set me back any.

Tuesday is my first long run - well, 10k - so let's see how that goes. Wish me luck and thanks for all the support!

Here we go!

Training is officially under way! During the summer i decided to do Couch to 5K to start my preparation should I get a marathon place and got up to half an hour of non-stop running. I then got the fantastic news that I'd been successful in getting a marathon place just before my holiday. I had every intention of getting back to training when I returned but was immediately offered a new job which I accepted! Exciting times but it did mean my headspace was a little occupied for a while, so training was delayed for a few weeks. This Monday I went back to the gym and hopped on the treadmill to get a feel for where I am. To my surprise I was able to easily run 25 mins without a break and could have gone on had I not needed to get ready for work. Yesterday I attempted a street run and WOW! I forgot how much harder it is to run on pavement. Clearly there's a long way to go but I'm fully committed and there's a lot of time between now at 27th April so look out for more training updates from me.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and all those who plan to.

Speak to you all soon!

Help Me Honor My Father and Support London Air Ambulance!

As I prepare to run the London Marathon 2025, I’m not just lacing up my trainers—I’m also honoring the memory of my father and raising funds for an incredible cause: the London Air Ambulance.

Many people mistakenly believe that this life-saving service is funded by the NHS, but in reality, it relies entirely on donations from generous supporters like you. Every contribution helps ensure that paramedics and doctors can reach patients in critical need, providing life-saving care within minutes. They are the difference between life and death in emergencies across London, and their work is nothing short of extraordinary.

My father and I had a complicated relationship, often feeling like we were from different worlds. We struggled to connect, especially when I left home and came out as gay. I feared his reaction, but when I finally shared my truth, he surprised me by embracing it. Over the years, we grew closer, building a bond I never thought possible.

After he passed away very suddenly, while going through his belongings, I discovered newsletters from the London Air Ambulance. My brother shared that my dad had become a supporter after a heartfelt conversation with one of their campaigners. It illuminated a side of him I hadn’t fully known—his kindness and commitment to helping others in need.

Though I wish I had the chance to know him better, I’m filled with pride as I run this marathon in his honor. Your support will help ensure that the London Air Ambulance can continue its vital work, making a difference in the lives of countless individuals.

Please consider donating to this worthy cause. Together, we can honor my father’s legacy and support a service that embodies compassion and hope. Thank you for your generosity!I will be taking part in the TCS London Marathon 2023 running with the London's Air Ambulance Charity Team. Please give what you can to help save lives in London.
