I'm running to help save lives in London
As most of you who’ve spent any time with me will know, I love running and become a very unpleasant person if I go more than a few days without going on a run. Running has been a huge stress release over the last few years at school, Uni and now work. In my job, I often see people at their moment of greatest need, so it feels apt to be running the 2024 London Marathon for London’s Air Ambulance, a charity that head towards people at this time, and that I believe represents the very best of humankind.
Seeing the London Air Ambulance in action is incredible. Every day, five people like you or me, who visit, live or work in London, have injuries so critical that they don’t have time to get to hospital. Over the last few years working as a police officer, I’ve witnessed their crew perform complex procedures on some of those individuals, whose lives are at risk from random cardiac arrests, stabbings and road traffic collisions. London’s Air Ambulance land in the narrowest of spaces and administer treatments such as open heart surgery, blood transfusions and general anaesthetic. I’ve seen their team perform this advanced medical care first hand, saving the lives of people ranging from a young cyclist that had been hit by a car and was choking on his own blood by the side of the road, to a father who’d collapsed and had a cardiac arrest in a busy restaurant. It is astounding that they are a charity, who rely on donations in order to continue providing advanced emergency medical care under incredible pressure (for free!) to Londoners.
I am completely in awe of the London Air Ambulance team, who I have always seen act with such skill, speed and compassion. I’d really appreciate any donations for this incredible charity - your donation will help save more lives by keeping the helicopter in the air and the rapid response cars on the road, ready for when they are needed most. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, London’s Air Ambulance Charity aims to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.
