Aimee's Hackney Half

By Aimee Hagland

I'm supporting London's Air Ambulance Charity

Hello my dudes! I’m going to be attempting to run the Hackney Half Marathon on May 18th to raise money for the London Air Ambulance Charity.

Now… I’m not exactly the most athletic person in the world nor do I actually enjoy running (still searching for whatever the hell a runners high is?) so I can’t exactly say I’m best pleased with myself for signing up to this.

However, the London Air Ambulance is something that is quite close to my heart and is worth dragging myself around the park doing laps in the pissing rain to train for this thing.

A few years ago, a close friend of mine, Jordan, was knocked off his bike and sustained a traumatic brain injury which left him in a coma for a few weeks and having to learn how to walk, talk, and most importantly cycle again. Miraculously, he went on to make an incredibly full recovery and he honestly would not be here today if it wasn’t for the heroic work that Dan and Lyndsey from the London Air Ambulance did that morning. Without them, our “Hungover Sundays” spent moping on the sofa wouldn’t be the same without Jords chirping away in the kitchen making us homemade McMuffins, or keeping us topped up with endless pints of Guinness for the hair of the dog… big up the LAA!! No but in all seriousness, what they did that morning, and continue to do day-in-day-out, is crucial to keeping the closest people to us, with us, and to that I am forever grateful.

Shockingly, even though they work alongside the NHS - they are not NHS funded and rely entirely on donations. It costs roughly £17m a year to run their service and to keep the likes of our v close pal Jords alive.

I would be incredibly grateful if you could even just spare the cost of a Blank Street coffee (other retailers also available…) to put towards this incredible team of legends to keep London going.

There was a short film made about Jords’ story that I would love for you to watch as it demonstrates just how important these guys are to us personally and to London as a community.
