We are cycling to help save lives in London
Sarah and Becca, both Emergency Care nurses, have recently started a secondment with the Physician Response Unit (PRU). The PRU is a pioneering Community Emergency Medicine service which aims to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred emergency care in North East London. It is delivered in partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust, London’s Air Ambulance Charity and the London Ambulance Service.
Essentially, the PRU brings the Emergency Department to the patient. In doing so, it provides definitive clinical assessment and management whilst harnessing the unique opportunity to see patients in the community - often in their own homes with insight into any challenges related to support networks, daily activities and access to services - to deliver urgent and emergency care which is holistic and accurately matches their needs.
Becca signed up to this event thinking she was cycling to Brighton but is infact the route will venture through Essex and return back to London. Despite her naivety she managed to get Sarah on board, although she is convinced she will cross the line in the recovery wagon.
