James vs. London Marathon 2023!
For the London Air ambulance charity this year marks their biggest fundraising campaign to date. The ‘Up against Time’ appeal.
Their aim is to raise £15 million to fund 2 urgently needed new helicopters, due to arrive in 2024.
Since 1989 their publicly funded helicopters have provided London and its surrounding areas with a pioneering team of ‘on call’ trauma doctors and paramedics.
When the unthinkable happens, where patients are so seriously injured that there’s no time to reach hospital, their rapid response medics give life-saving treatment on scene.
30 years ago, as a twelve year-old boy, my life was saved by these incredible people.
I was a lucky survivor of an air crash. Unconscious, with multiple injuries, my chances of survival were low.
Had these heroes not landed on scene within minutes, the outcome of my life would, without doubt, be very different.
It would be unimaginable for me to be enjoying the life that I am, let alone be running a London Marathon, had it not been for the courageous, compassionate and inspirational people who make this service possible.
London is so lucky to have them. I’m humbled this year to have been given the chance to help them raise money, running as part of their London Marathon Team.
