Wing Walk to London Air Ambulance

By Matilda Mansson

I'm supporting London's Air Ambulance Charity

What better way to raise money for London Air Ambulance than by taking to the skies myself? On 12th September, I’ll be flying for 10 minutes in this plane, all in support of an incredible, life-saving service.
Having worked at a London major trauma centre, I have seen first hand the amazing work the London Air Ambulance. I have cared for patients that would not have made it to us at the hospital for the life-saving treatments, surgeries and care, had it not been for the London Air Ambulance.

The London Air Ambulance are not funded by the government for their daily operations and therefore rely on public support.

We all hope we never need them, but in that critical moment, London Air Ambulance could be the difference between life and death for you or someone you love.

The helicopter can be airborne in just four
minutes and arrive anywhere in London
within 11 minutes

The incredible medical teams can perform blood transfusions and open chest surgery at the roadside

Why am I doing this?

During my time working in a A&E in Arusha,Tanzania, I witnessed the devastating impact of having little to no emergency transport available for seriously ill or injured patients. Most were brought to hospital by family members after travelling long distances, often deteriorating significantly along the way. Some sadly died before they could receive treatment.

The contrast with the UK was striking. We often hear that our ambulance services are stretched, but they exist and they come. In Arusha, even one functioning ambulance reaching rural communities could have made a life-saving difference.

That experience completely changed how I viewed London’s Air Ambulance. Here we have an exceptional service that delivers specialist care within minutes to the most critically injured patients, yet it relies on charitable funding. When I later began working at St George’s, I cared for patients who had been brought in by the service, and seeing firsthand the lives it had helped save only deepened my admiration. Many of the deaths I witnessed in Tanzania felt preventable with timely treatment, making me appreciate even more the incredible work London’s Air Ambulance does every day.

A big thank you to: (who donated on GoFundMe which has now been transferred as a whole to this page)
