London's Air Ambulance Helipad Abseil 2024

Done it!

Thank you so much to everyone who has read and donated. I wanted to pay back the cost of Joes call out and this has really helped towards that target.
It was the scariest thing I ve ever done. 17 stories high! I just kept my eyes shut and kept feeding the rope through. I m so grateful for all the support and everyone’s kindness. I ve added some photos beneath.

Fingers crossed this time

I m getting ready to try this again! You may recall that last year I got there and my harness on only to be cancelled due to the wind. I was scared last year but now I ve actually seen how high it is! It’s very high!
But I really want to repay the cost of Joes air ambulance call out and it’s really important to me that I highlight the amazing work this charity does. Saving so many lives. I never ever thought it would be us who needed their expertise and we will be eternally grateful for their help that day.
If you are able to support me again that would be amazing but if you have read this far then it’s great you seeing the great work they do. Thank you very much. My date is Thursday 5th September. I ll post photos after the event. Thank you very much. Kirsty x

New date- fingers crossed

Following last Septembers postponement due to high winds my big abseil is rescheduled for Thursday 5th September 2024.
I ll post a picture beneath of how high the building is and I m actually wishing I hadn’t seen it before as it’s very very high.
This year I m aiming to get to £1000 for London Air Ambulance who saved our oldest son Joes life in March 2023. We will never ever forget what they did for us that day and my aim has always been to pay the cost of Joes call out that evening.
If anyone is able to make a small donation I would be very grateful but if you aren’t able to then that is fine too. We know that times are difficult for so many people and I m happy you have read this far and heard of the great work the air ambo teams do in really difficult circumstances.
Thank you all very much.
Kirsty

Delayed with no new date yet

Hi All,
As you know the abseil was delayed due to high winds on the morning. I even got my harness on! I haven’t received a new date yet. I will post again as soon as I do.
I m so sorry for the delay. If anyone would like a refund of their donation please contact the charity directly and they will arrange this.
Thank you once again for all your support. Kirsty

London Air Ambulance critical care team

Many of you will know that I have a big birthday coming up in August. Many of you will also know that as a family we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the London Air Ambulance critical care team. In March this year Joe was seriously injured and was cared for by the amazing NHS teams but before he even arrived at St George’s he was cared for by London’s Air Ambulance critical care team. This dedicated charity delivers an advanced trauma team to London’s most seriously injured patients. We never ever thought that one of our family would need their help. Their fast response team included a doctor and a paramedic who saved Joe’s life. I struggle to comprehend the enormity of  the life saving care they give and how quickly any one of us could need their help.

So, I ve decided to try and raise some money for them. By doing this I know they will help save more lives by keeping the helicopter in the air and the rapid response cars on the road, ready for when they are needed most. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, London’s Air Ambulance Charity aims to give patients the best chance of survival. It’s the only thing I can do for them as saying thank you simply isn’t enough when I reflect upon what they did for us.

You all know I’m a real wimp but I will be abseiling from the home of London's Air Ambulance Charity on the 17th Floor of The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. In celebration of my Birthday and also as a statement of my gratitude and support to the teams who helped us in our hour of need.

Please don’t buy me a birthday gift or send a card but instead consider a small donation to my fundraising page if you are able. If not please don’t worry at all. I’m really happy you have read this far.

As for Joe, he is recovered and back at work doing the job he loves. As a family we remain incredibly grateful to everyone involved on that difficult day. Sending love to all of you reading this. Kirsty
