I'm running to help the London Air Ambulance save lives
In April, I’ll be running the London Marathon for London Air Ambulance to raise money for a very important charity that relies on public donations and means a lot to me personally.
In September 2021, I received a call from my godfather to say that my godmother had had an accident. She had fallen down the stairs and suffered bleeds on both sides of the brain. She was airlifted from Surbiton to King’s College Hospital but unfortunately they were very deep bleeds and inoperable, and sadly she never regained consciousness.
Bev's accident was fatal, but the air ambulance gave her the best chance of survival and
crucially allowed her closest family and friends to say goodbye to her,
particularly her daughter Annie who lives outside of the UK.
The work they do is for the for the most seriously injured, and often for freak incidents that can happen to any of us. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, London’s Air Ambulance Charity aims to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.
Bev was a very special person and someone I miss so much. A 5ft2 Welsh whirlwind, she was the life and soul of the party (often found dancing on benches or tables!) and her ability to connect with anyone meant that she has left a gaping hole in a lot of people’s lives.
Although I run regularly, I have never run more than a half marathon so doubling this is going to be both a mental and physical challenge for me (particularly the boredom of a 3 hour run for repeated Saturday mornings..). I would appreciate any donations to keep me motivated when I begin my 16 week training plan…
