I'm running to help save lives in London

Running for London, from Greenwich

I've spent more than 20 years working in the NHS, most recently supporting urgent care in Greenwich. In that time I've seen first-hand how much local services matter when people need them most. I've also come to appreciate one thing above all: what happens in the first few minutes after a serious injury often decides what happens next.

That's where London's Air Ambulance Charity comes in. When someone is critically injured anywhere in the capital, its doctors and paramedics can be with them within minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year. They carry out procedures at the scene that would normally only happen in an operating theatre, including open chest surgery, blood transfusions and induced comas. No other service in London does this.

What many people don't realise is that 95% of its funding comes from public donations. Each mission costs around £3,446 and the team treats six patients a day on average. None of that happens without people choosing to give.

So in April 2027 I'll be running the London Marathon to do my bit. Training is well under way with the Tonbridge 10k in the bag, there's still a long road and plenty of training ahead.

Every donation, large or small, makes a real difference. Please add Gift Aid if you can. Thank you for backing me.
