I'm running for my Dad!
I will be taking part in the TCS London Marathon 2024 running with London's Air Ambulance Charity Team. To run the London Marathon has always been a bucket list item for me and this year, brings great cause.
I am running to raise money for the London Air Ambulance team as they saved my father's life, Peter La Plain. He was in a road traffic collision in the centre of London and is now an amputee after losing the lower part of his left leg. The air ambulance team managed to save his life roadside on Warrick Road near Earls Court. Peter sustained life-threatening and life-changing injuries which as a family, we are all adapting and having to come to terms with.
On the 5th of August of last year Peter got hit by a motorcycle at high speed while crossing the road. He sustained several injuries, including a shattered pelvis, broken collar bone, 2 broken ribs, damage to the spleen and abdomen, a tear in the aorta, resulting in a stent and a broken left shoulder, resulting in a replacement that is now fixed. During, Peter's 8 weeks in St. Mary Hospital's ICU unit, he visited theatre countless times and suffered from 2 heart attacks and failure of the kidneys.
I owe everything to the London Air Ambulance team, the team of St Marys Hospital and all the friends and family around Peter: my mum, sister and brother-in-law at the time of the accident.
