Andrew's Unintended Abseiling Adventure for the London Air Ambulance Charity
Hello, wonderful and generous readers!
This September, I will be taking on a challenge that was definitely not on my bucket list: abseiling down a very tall building. How did I end up in this situation, you ask? Well, my partner Daniel, in an act of sheer brilliance (or complete madness), decided to sign me up without telling me. Surprise, surprise!
Why the London Air Ambulance?
First, let’s talk about the reason behind this daring and slightly terrifying adventure. Daniel and I work for the London Ambulance Service and see the incredible, life-saving work the London Air Ambulance does every day. These heroes provide critical care during major incidents, flying in like caped crusaders – minus the capes, of course. Their work is nothing short of miraculous, and they need our support to continue saving lives.
Andrew’s Unexpected Journey
So, here I am, roped into this abseil challenge. Imagine my surprise when over breakfast, Daniel casually mentioned that I’d be joining him in this feat of daring. Picture my face: a mix of shock, horror, and the realisation that I might need to update my will. But, after some arm twisting I’m ready to take on this challenge.
A Relationship with Heights? It's Complicated
I can’t say I’ve ever been petrified of heights, I’m happy to jump in (and out of) planes at the drop of a hat, but, the idea of abseiling down a towering building is, well, let's just say it's going to be an adventure. Expect a lot of nervous laughter and possibly a few choice words on the way down.
The Big Day: Wednesday, 4th September 2024
Circle the 4th of September in your calendars, because that’s the day I’ll be confronting my fears head-on. Picture me, clinging to the side of a building, attempting to look cool and collected (but probably failing miserably). Every step, every breath, and every scream will be for the amazing London Air Ambulance charity.
How You Can Help
Here’s where you come in. I’m asking for your support, not just emotionally (though I’ll take all the cheering I can get), but also financially. Your donations will directly support the London Air Ambulance, helping them continue their life-saving work. Think of it as a two-for-one deal: you get to help an incredible cause and watch me overcome my fear of heights. It’s a win-win!

I'm Abseiling to help save lives in London
London’s Air Ambulance is the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to London’s most seriously injured patients. Your donation will help save more lives by keeping the helicopter in the air and the rapid response cars on the road, ready for when they are needed most. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, London’s Air Ambulance Charity aims to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.
I will be abseiling from the home of London's Air Ambulance Charity one the 17th Floor of The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Please give what you can to help save lives in London.
