London's Air Ambulance Helipad Abseil 2025

Another year another great fall

I'm grateful to the organisers for giving me the chance to enjoy another abseil.

Well organised with enthusiastic supporters who welcome you and put you at your ease. Once checked in it is up the the 17th floor, thankfully by lift, not the stairs.
The view from the helipad is amazing, even better when the helicopter is on the pad.
We then descend to the 'drop-off point' where we are kitted out with the harness, helmet and gloves.
When your time comes you step onto the launch platform and get linked to the rope system by the experienced team; it says so on their polo shirts.
"Stand on the edge and lean back"
Suddenly you are floating in the air, slowly descending down the face of the building; passing windows where the faces of patients watch you pass by.

Gravity doesn't exist. You don't plummet. You can control your descent. You can even stop and have a look around at the landscape of high-rise buildings and the countryside beyond that as you spin around.
People pay a lot of money to see this in the Shard; you are raising money for a great London resource.
Too soon you are on the ground and being released from the harness.
Don't forget to collect your certificate.
Unfortunately there is not an option to "Do It Again"

I'm Abseiling to help save lives in London

I was a volunteer with Herts and Beds SERV. We transported blood to hospitals and collected samples out-of-hours and enjoyed the ride in the early hours of the morning helping the NHS. It made me appreciate the dedication that charities make in delivering the vital services we rely on.

London’s Air Ambulance is the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to London’s most seriously injured patients. Your donation will help save more lives by keeping the helicopter in the air and the rapid response cars on the road, ready for when they are needed most. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, London’s Air Ambulance Charity aims to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.

On Friday 12th September I will be abseiling from the home of London's Air Ambulance Charity from the 17th Floor of The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel for the second time. Please give what you can to help save lives in London.
