Challenge 2022

2,000 adventurers of all experience levels & ages will take on a classic capital to coast route, testing their grit over the Bank Holiday weekend. Most will Walk, but many will Jog or Run the full 100km, and with half & quarter distance options there's a challenge for everyone.

About the event

A Richmond start by the Thames - then the North Downs and wonderful Surrey & Sussex countryside to halfway at Turners Hill. The 100km route heads up and over the South Downs before the welcome sight of the Brighton coastline comes in to view. Your entry includes free food and drink at regular rest stops, plus support including medics, marshals and massage. As you cross the finish line, you’ll get a glass of fizz, t-shirt, and a medal to commemorate your achievement.

Fundraising Options

Option 1 Charity Sponsorship

You pay a small registration fee, do lots of fundraising and we cover the cost of your event place!

  • 25km: Reg fee £10 / fundraising target £250
  • 50km: Reg fee £20 / fundraising target £395
  • 100km: Reg fee £30 / fundraising target £595

Option 2 Mixed Fundraising

Pay half of the event place cost yourself, fundraise a bit less and we pay the balance of the event
place cost.

  • 25km: Reg fee £45 / fundraising target £135
  • 50km: Reg fee £72.50 / fundraising target £218
  • 100km: Reg fee £110 / fundraising target £330

Option 3 Self Fund

You pay the full cost of the event place - fundraise whatever you want, with no set target or deadline, and there’s no cost at all to the charity!

  • 100km: £198

The Route

Leafy Richmond to sunny Brighton – over the North Downs and the South Downs, with some wonderful Surrey & Sussex countryside in between.  With 1,500m of climb, you’ll be rewarded with fabulous views, varied scenery, and some great off road trails. Tulley’s Farm, near Turners Hill, is the halfway stop at at 56 km where you’ll have a well deserved hot meal & rest, before tackling the 44 km stretch to the Brighton Racecourse finish line.

It’s the original Ultra Challenge – and still a real classic after 10 years!

Who can take part?

On the date of the Event you must be 18 or older to participate within the ‘full’ challenge (100km), 16 or older for a ‘half’ challenge (50km), and 14 or older for a ‘quarter’ challenge (25km).

Can I join the team if I have my own place?

Yes, we welcome all own place fundraisers to our Team. the only difference is there is no set minimum sponsorship.

Can I take part as a team?

Yes, you can be a team if your teammate(s) have a London’s Air Ambulance Charity place or their own place. We can combine your minimum sponsorship to create one team fundraising target.

How do I register?

What website should I use to set up an online giving page?

We have our own fundraising pages, you will be able to set up your page when you register or you can create an account to set your page up after you have registered.

Do I get a London's Air Ambulance Charity top to wear on the day?

We send all our participants a London’s Air Ambulance Charity tech top or vest to wear on the day.

Can my family and friends come to watch?

Yes, take a look at the course map to see where your family might be able to cheer you on.

How can I get my workplace to support me?

There are loads of ways your work can support your fundraising, here are a few ideas: 

  1. Match funding- some workplaces offer match funding where they match up to a certain amount of what you raise for example if you raise £500 they will match it and give you £500 making your fundraising total £1,000
  2. Add your online giving page to your work email signature
  3. Hold a bake sale, lunchtime activity or after work quiz
  4. Guess your finish time- £2 to guess a time, winner wins a prize or a % of the money from the game or a prize that has been donated to you.

What happens if I don’t hit my target by the deadline date?

We will be in regular contact between the time you register and the event date. The ‘Initial Target’ of at least 50% must be submitted to the Charity by 3 weeks prior to the Event. If at anytime you are concerned about your fundraising progress we ask that you contact us so we can help. If you are not able to reach the target by the deadline set we will work together with you to extend your deadline and support further fundraising activity to help.

Does the registration fee contribute towards my fundraising?

Your registration fee contributes towards the cost of your place and is not included in your fundraising target.

What happens if I get injured or am no longer able to take part in the event?

If you are no longer able to take part please email events@londonsairambulance.org.uk if you have one of our charity places, we may be able to defer your place to the following year depending on the event. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss what we can do to help.
